ABOUT
PAISLEY PAISLEY is
Scotland's largest town, with approximately 100,000 inhabitants, and one of its
most historic. It is located 7 miles west of Glasgow and dates back to the
12th century when it grew up around Paisley Abbey. During the 18th and 19th
centuries the town became famous for its textile industries and the
"Paisley" pattern, based on a Kashmiri design of curving shapes.
Some of the town's famous sons include: Saint Mirin who
founded the Celtic church around which Paisley Abbey grew up. The Reverend
John Witherspoon who became principal of Princeton University and was one of
the signatories of the American Declaration of Independence. William Brown
and John Polson who became famous world-wide for their Brown & Polson
